Longview Texas is located in Gregg County and is the county seat. The 2010 census population was 80,455 and the current estimated population of about 100,000. East Texas is sometimes called the Piney Woods with green trees, brush and grass. The elevation is 371 feet with small gentle rolling hills.
The trade area is the counties of Gregg, Rusk, and Upshur with a population of 217,481. The other large city in northeast Texas is Tyler 40 miles to the west.
The economy has several components including East Texas oil fields, Good Shepherd Medical Center, Eastman Chemical, Longview schools, Walmart, Joy Global (heavy equipment), Trinity Rail llc., City of Longview, Gregg Industrial Insulator (contractor), Longview regional hospital, and Diagnostic Clinic of Longview as major employers.
Non agricultural employment includes Mining, Logging and Construction, Education Health Services, Government, Retail Trade, Manufacturing, Leisure and Hospitality, as well as Professional and Business Services.
Higher Education: Le Tourneau University, Kilgore College Longview campus as well as a branch campus of University of Texas at Tyler.
